Summary:
Reports to the Manager Support Services. Responsible for supervising and coordinating Central Transport operations at the TMH site. Supervises dispatchers couriers and mailroom clerks on all shifts. Resolves staffing and operation problems. Performs duties of dispatcher transport aide in order to cover staffing shortages or respond to emergency requests.


Responsibilities:


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:


  • Ensures proper training of all Central Transport employees. Provides orientation on modes of access to all areas serviced by Central Transport. Periodically travels with employees to ensure they are performing duties appropriately.
  • Schedules and assigns Central Transport employees on shifts. Informs Support Services Manager of daily staffing levels and standard operations.
  • Makes rounds throughout the hospital to observe the Central Transport Aides at work. Identifies investigates and resolves problems such as but not limited to materials and specimens delayed or not received at the appropriate destination. Resolves conflicts with user departments involving performance of Central Transport employees. Reports serious or sensitive issues to Support Services Manager.
  • Recommends discipline and discharge of subordinate employees.
  • Ensures preventative maintenance and arranges for repairs when necessary on all wheelchairs stretchers and unit equipment. Conducts annual inventory of all equipment belonging to Central Transport. Prepares and maintains appropriate logs on all inventory.
  • Prepares and submits recommendations to Support Services Manager regarding changes in policies and procedures related to department operations.
  • Utilizes computer terminal to enter data and track information concerning Central Transport runs staffing and inventory.
  • Will perform duties of dispatcher and aide whenever deemed necessary.
  • Assumes responsibility for Central Transport operations in the absence of the Support Services Manager.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Supervisory and managerial abilities to direct work of subordinate personnel and maintain department standards for quality and accuracy.


Interpersonal skills to manage counsel and train subordinates and to exchange information and resolve problems with user department personnel at all levels of the hospital organization.


QUALIFICATIONS-EDUCATION:

The level of knowledge normally obtained through completion of High School.

One to three years progressive responsibility including lead responsibility for a work group preferably in a health care setting.

Basic knowledge of computer spreadsheets and word processing.


WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work in office environment but is also exposed to patient care environment. Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Physical ability to lift carry and push patients and moderately heavy materials.


SUPERVISION:

Direct supervision for the day-to-day operations of up to FTEs.
