Duties & Responsibilities:


SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Operate telephone switchboard, answering all incoming calls in a timely and professional manner; assist patients with information and directions to specific areas in the hospital; respond quickly and effectively to all emergency codes using proper hospital procedures.
  • Utilize overhead paging system to issue fire alarms, disaster alerts, emergency codes, STAT calls and physicians rounds. Make announcements as requested.
  • In the event that the fire alarms sounds, notify the Fire Department by pulling the handle on the firebox located on the right side of the telephone operator's station.
  • Record all emergency codes, internal/external disasters, overhead pages and number of fire drills conducted per tour.
  • Communicate patient needs to appropriate personnel, following proper reporting procedures in compliance with HIPPA laws.
  • Send Telegrams and Mailgrams to third party vendor for delivery to patients.
  • Provide general information, directory assistance, and assistance in dialing international calls and conference calls.
  • Report routine equipment failures to department supervisors and note information on repair log.
  • Keep abreast of hospital events that may generate calls and inquiries from those outside the hospital.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's Department
of Education or a recognized accrediting organization; and

  • Eighteen (18) months of full-time satisfactory clerical experience.

Skills Requirement:
Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per
minute.
