Medical Documentation: Training

Medical documentation assistants have a variety of employment opportunities thanks to their completed training. One of the main tasks for MDAs is documenting and evaluating medical data. In research, they review and document the effectiveness and compatibility of medications in sometimes very complex studies.

In addition to computer skills, knowledge of medicine and descriptive statistics is equally important for MDAs.

The daily work of an MDA is also characterized by cooperation with other professions. Communication and teamwork skills are therefore essential foundations for success in this profession.

There are two main focuses in the training of medical documentation. On one hand, the following medical subjects are in the foreground:

  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Pathology
  • Laboratory Medicine
  • Pharmacology

On the other hand, documentation and organization are another thematic focus:

  • Billing, study, and tumor documentation
  • Medical literature documentation
  • Data processing
  • Statistics

In addition, common office programs as well as general education subjects such as German, English, social studies, and professional, civic, and legal studies are also part of the training.
