Who we are:


  • The Zentrum für Internationale Friedenseinsätze (ZIF) gGmbH was founded in 2002 in close cooperation between the German government and parliament. The sole shareholder is the Federal Republic of Germany, represented by the Federal Foreign Office. The task of ZIF is to make a German contribution to strengthening international capacities for crisis prevention, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding. ZIF fulfills this mandate through numerous services in training, human resources, international capacity development, administration, as well as analysis and policy advice at home and abroad. German civilian experts and leaders work in over 40 international peace operations worldwide. Due to the revised Secondment Act in July 2017, ZIF is a seconding organization and employer for civilian experts in EU, OSCE, UN peace operations, and humanitarian standby deployments. In addition, ZIF annually deploys several hundred election observers to missions of the EU and OSCE.


The ICD team identifies operational challenges in the structures, processes, and instruments of international organizations, international peace operations, other multilateral or governmental actors, and ZIF itself through cross-sectoral cooperation.

The consulting services of the ICD team contribute, among other things, to the development of civilian capacities in partner countries and international organizations and strengthen structures at the interface between peace operations and humanitarian aid.

In addition, it provides conceptual and operational contributions in the field of peace mediation and mediation support in national and international contexts.
