Evaluating Advanced Camera Technology for Industrial Applications in Augusta, MO


SICK AG, located in Waldkirch near Freiburg, DE , is seeking a full-time candidate for a 3-6 month position during the winter semester of 2024/25.

In recent years, camera systems with increasingly advanced capabilities have become prevalent in various industries.

From cameras integrated into our smartphones to camera arrays in self-driving cars and camera systems used in industrial manufacturing processes, these technologies are transforming our daily lives.

At the core of these systems are images generated by a range of technologies, from standard CMOS image sensors in the visible spectrum to emerging approaches that extend into the UV and deep IR ranges.

Depending on the specific task and image processing techniques, such as AI-based algorithms, different measures of image quality are relevant.


The objective of this thesis is to investigate various camera technologies and their corresponding image quality measures, and how they can be applied to novel industrial sensors.


Your tasks will include:

  • Designing and setting up a measurement system to evaluate image quality and system performance
  • Exploring novel camera approaches

Your profile should include:

  • Studying Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
