Registered Nurse Manager

Job Summary


Nursing supervisors ensure that patients receive the best medical care possible by overseeing a well-trained group of nurses and aids.

Their key responsibilities are to maintain and manage a cohesive medical team, making sure documentation is up-to-date and accurate, and facilitate good communication between patients, nursing staff and physicians.

He/She has solid experience as a registered nurse and can handle stressful situations. This position also requires team management skills and a problem-solving attitude.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of increasingly responsible experience at a level equivalent to an RN II.
  • Additional education and training in the program area of specialty may substitute for up to a year of experience.
  • Graduation from an approved school of nursing, with either an associate degree or diploma, or;
  • Graduation from an accredited fouryear college or school of nursing with a bachelor's degree in nursing or a public health nursing certificate.
  • Any satisfactory combination of experience and training which ensures the ability to perform the work may substitute for the above.
  • Possession of a current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Pennsylvania.
  • A valid driver's license with a reliable insured vehicle.
  • Thorough knowledge of OASIS
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to discipline staff.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Excellent time management and organization skills.
  • Ability to provide leadership and mentorship to the nursing staff.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal regulations and best practices in healthcare.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a good working relationship with nursing staff, contract providers, and outside provider agencies.
  • Utilizes established agency policies and procedures in making decisions.
  • Responsible for staff scheduling and supervision.
  • Assisting management in recruiting, orienting, supervising, and evaluating the performance of nursing and clerical staff.
  • Directs the work of other nursing and clerical staff. This includes the selection hiring, evaluating job performance, employee training/development, promoting and any disciplinary action, including termination.
  • Ensures adequate coverage on all shifts.
  • Fills in as needed during periods of short staffing.
  • Monitors callins and use of overtime.
  • Monitors staff compliance with facility policies and unit directives by counseling employees who violate policies established by the company or the facility, after consultation with management.
  • Organizes monthly inservice education. Ensures that staff receives inservice as required.
  • Maintains current licensure on all staff requiring such licensure.
  • Maintains shift assignments.
  • Reports any staff problems to management on a regular basis.
  • Monitors the assignments, review of records, and care plans of the patients and ensuring follow through per policies and procedures.
