Works as part of the Employment Services team, within the Public Assistance and Employment Services (PAES) Division as an energetic, reliable, well-organized individual.

This team provides employment resources to unemployed and underemployed job seekers.

The position will be an active member of a collaborative and compassionate team that supports operations of federal, state, and local workforce development programs such as the Virginia Initiative for Education and Work (VIEW), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Employment and Training (SNAPET), Bridges to Success (Bridges), and the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).

About the position:


Under the supervision of a supervisor, a human services assistant will provide paraprofessional support to case managers who determine eligibility and provide front-line service delivery for federal, state, and local workforce development programs.


What you will do:

  • Coordinate referred services with partner programs and collaborate with training providers.
  • Provide support to Virginia Career Works Centers and the VIEW Job Center.
  • Interact with county staff, communitybased organizations, and customers to answer inquiries, problem solve, and verify information that is needed.
  • Assist with the coordination and monitoring of the unit work.
  • Prepare and maintain statistical reports and records.
  • Provide additional support to team members as workloads and deadlines require.
  • Identify, research, and solve service delivery problems.
  • Use automated technology to document, obtain, and verify information, and to generate reports including scanning of documents.

Note:
The location varies depending on the needs of the department. This position requires travel throughout Fairfax County. Additionally, this position will occasionally require you to work evenings, holidays, and/or weekends.


Employment Standards:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

  • Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to graduation from
- high school or G.E.D. issued by state department of education; plus three years of work
- experience, including two years in some area of human services (related two-year
- [associate] degree may be substituted for the required human service experience).


CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:


  • Foundations of Workforce Development Professional Certification (Required within 12 months)

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:


The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and child protective services check to the satisfaction of the employer.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • At least 2 years of experience working in some area of human services.
  • At least 3 years of experience providing excellent frontline customer service.
  • At least 1 year of experience working in employment programs.
  • At least 3 years of experience working in fastpaced, resultsdriven programs.
  • Experience delivering services and providing resources to individuals with barriers to employment (i.e., individuals with disabilities, exoffenders, etc.).
  • Clear and concise oral and written communications skills.
  • Proficiency and knowledge of word processing and data management programs (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, survey software).
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, performance measures, and quality standards governing federal workforce programs, to include but not limited to the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), Virginia Initiative for Education and Work (VIEW), and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Employment and Training (SNAPET).
  • Knowledge of labor market conditions, career guidance, and job development techniques.
  • Certified Virginia Workforce Development Professional (VWDP) or National Workforce Development Professional (NWDP).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to input, access, and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to perform repetitive hand, arm, wrist, and shoulder movements. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.


SELECTION PROCEDURE:

Panel interview and may include exercise.
