Description

Duties:


  • You will install commercial locking devices (e.g., combination safes, file cabinets, electric security systems, door locks, panic hardware) in wood or metal doors.
  • You will use small hand tools (e.g., files, picks, tweezers, tension wrenches) to install or disassemble locking devices.
  • You will read drawings and plans to lay out locksmith work.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • Work may require certification thru the DOD Lock Program.
  • You may be required to travel away from normal duty station and must be able to travel at least 5 days per month.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a preappointment physical examination.

Qualifications:


  • Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
May be required to lift items weighing approximately 15 pounds. May be required to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds and heavier weights with assistance.

The work may require standing, stooping, bending, kneeling and working in awkward positions when installing and opening locks and emergency exit hardware on-site.


WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is normally done inside. Occasionally work is done outside in bad weather or in areas that are drafty and poorly lighted.

May be exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes and bruises or burns while using acetylene torches, brazing torches, and soldering irons.


A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.
