  • The Max-PlanckInstitut für Wissenschaftsgeschichte (MPIWG) is a highly respected international research institute of the Max-PlanckGesellschaft (MPG) with three research departments, several research groups, and a graduate school. At the MPIWG, approximately three hundred scholars from around the world collaborate on interdisciplinary research projects to investigate the history of science. The institute is renowned for its critical examination of the role of science in politics and society. It is located in the southwestern part of Berlin, near the campus of the Freie Universität Berlin and other research institutions.

Field of Work:


The department "Artifacts, Action, Knowledge" focuses on the history of knowledge and action, with a particular emphasis on the changing role of artifacts such as texts, objects, and spaces.

Our research explores the processes and structures through which people have engaged with the material world. By analyzing everyday actions, we investigate the intersections between the inner workings of objects and all aspects of life.
