Responsible for over $2-5 million in operating and extramural funds for Life Science's Biology Group, consisting of the Ecology & Evolutionary Biology Department, the Computational & System Biology Program and the

Applies theory and puts it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field; Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; Possesses job knowledge; Analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions; Uses skills to independently develop and / or oversee research proposals, awards and/or transactions related to contract and grant management and maintains contract and grant records in compliance with institutional research sponsor policies; Completes and approves transactions for signature by manager or other authorized institutional official; Works on proposals such as grants / contracts which require task budgets, optional years, multiple investigators and multiple sub awards; Incumbent provides analytical and financial support in proposal processing, contract and grant administration, and budget development, including pre-award proposal initiatives, management of funds post-award, and closeout activities for federal, state, local and private sponsors; Involves activities associated with forecasting, planning, and managing of research portfolios by performing some or all of the following: coordinating, identifying, developing and/or presenting proposals, contracts and other agreements.

Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications

  • 1. Demonstrated skill in managing funds from multiple sources. (required)
  • 2. Demonstrated skill in reading and interpreting technical documents, such as agency policies, statements, manuals, award documents and other materials. (required)
  • 3. Ability to effectively communicate complex financial and administrative information to a diverse clientele. (required)
  • 4. Demonstrated working knowledge of federal and state contract and grant policies and procedures, including proposal preparation requirements for life science disciplines. (required)
  • 5. Skill in using the online purchasing system. (preferred)
  • 6. Knowledge of accepted procurement practices. Ability to negotiate successfully with vendors. (required)
  • 7. Demonstrated working ability to correctly balance ledgers and to generate adjustments in a timely fashion. Strong knowledge of payroll and personnel practices, policies and systems. (required)
  • 8. Ability to analyze financial information from multiple sources and to generate accurate and timely reports. Demonstrated ability to calculate accurate budgets, including projections. (required)
  • 9. Skill in writing clear, correct business memoranda, letters, reports and other material. Skill in speaking clearly and distinctly. (required)
  • 10. Demonstrated skill in designing and implementing spreadsheet and database tools for financial and administrative purposes. (preferred)
  • 11. Skill in using word processing and other software to generate forms, templates, documents and other materials. (required)
  • 12. Demonstrated ability to expedite administrative processes correctly and to meet close deadlines. (required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Bachelor's Degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training (required)
