Utility Service Worker - Collections

Public Works & Utilities

Full-time, Non-Exempt

Pay Range:
$16.00/hr - $19.20/hr DOQ

This is skilled work in the maintenance, construction and repair of city utility mains and facilities.

The employee in this class participates in a variety of tasks in connection with construction, maintenance and repair of the City Collection distribution system.

Assignments are received in either written or oral form. Work is preformed under the general supervision of a supervisor and is checked in progress and upon completion.


Essential Job Functions

  • Cleans main sewer lines; unstop clogged sewer lines; operates rodding machine and other equipment to facilitate effective utility services.
  • Assists in location of sewer laterals and mains as well as water mains and services.
  • Participates in laying and fitting of sewer lines, operates and cleans lift stations, checks manholes, digs and backfills ditches.
  • May assist with laying and fitting of water mains, fire hydrants, making taps for service connections, setting meters, and construction of meter boxes.
  • May Assist with repairs and maintains fire hydrants, mains, and other facilities.
  • May operate light equipment.
  • Repairs and maintains plumbing in all City building and parks.
  • Helps with repairs at Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants.
  • Performs related functions as assigned.

Qualifications
High school graduation or GED required.

Some experience in the construction, repair and maintenance of utilities and collection facilities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must have or be able to obtain a valid Florida Commercial B Driver s license. A comparable amount of education and/or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within 6 months of completion of probationary period.

Must have or be able to obtain a C Wastewater Technician certification within 12 months of hire in the wastewater collection division.
