Summary:


The Gift Officer is a member of the Sonoran University Development Team who plays a key role in growing and stewarding Sonoran University's funding dollars and donor base.

As a part of the Development Team, the Gift Officer will cultivate relationships with a portfolio of donors and donor prospects, represent Sonoran University at community events, and retain existing donors through exemplary stewardship.

This individual must be interested in and comfortable cultivating relationships and soliciting gifts. Being able to form strong relationships with different types of people is required to achieve philanthropic goals.

While the position is mostly donor facing, a successful Gift Officer will be highly organized and detail oriented to schedule, communicate, document, and research current and prospective donors.

Responsibilities:

The Gift Officer's primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Cultivate relationships with a personal portfolio of donors
  • Identify and research prospective donors
  • Implement the donor stewardship program and prepare donor outcome reports
  • Develop and execute individual strategies for engaging, cultivating, soliciting, and
retaining donors

  • Travel in state for inperson cultivation and solicitation meetings with existing and prospective donors
  • Maintain accurate and thorough records of meetings and donor correspondence
  • Represent Sonoran University in the community
  • Perform data analysis and prepare regular reports
  • Collaborate with various Sonoran University departments to philanthropically support educational and clinical programs
  • Gain a thorough understanding of Sonoran University's Philanthropic Priorities through familiarity of Sonoran University's academic departments, activities, research, and community health programs
  • Provide excellent customer services to donors and employees
  • Be an active member of the Development Team
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the growth and sustainability of Sonoran University

Education & Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree or higher, in nonprofit or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience managing a portfolio of donors and soliciting gifts in a nonprofit or academic advancement environment
  • Possesses outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, verbal and written
  • Dedicated, motivated individual with the skill to take initiative and work independently

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • High level of computer literacy required
  • Comfortable communicating with donors and making asks
  • Diligence and follow through in researching and cultivating prospects
  • Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Attention to detail with high standards for accuracy
  • Strong customer service/donor focus
  • Ability to track and meet deadlines
  • Experienced and comfortable in a variety of donorinteraction situations
  • Some evening and weekend work will be required
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge NXT preferred
