PART-TIME KARATE INSTRUCTOR - YOUTH SPORTS

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

The Part-Time Karate Instructor - Youth Sports will lead in teaching the assigned sport(s).

The Instructor is responsible for ensuring the safety of the students enrolled in his/her sport, must be knowledgeable about all aspects of coaching multiple age groups and must encourage the highest standards of conduct and scholastic achievement among all athletes.

This part-time role may require evening and weekend availability.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Lead challenging and educational practice sessions.
  • Instruct group in accordance with YMCA guidelines and rules of the game.
  • Uphold, model, teach and put the four (4) core values of the YMCA into action in all activities everyday: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
  • Maintain good relationship with Students, parents and sports officials.
  • Maintain professional appearance and report on time to all scheduled practices and games.
  • Strive to develop the qualities of leadership, initiative and good judgement in all athletes.
  • Develop habits that promote good health and sound training rules.
  • Create a positive and nurturing learning environment to instill and encourage youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
  • Adhere to the directions given by the head coach and assist at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Experience with teaching karate to multiple age groups.
  • Experience in running progressive classes that advance students through different benchmarks, accomplishments, and belts.
  • Flexible schedule
  • Certifications: CPR, AED, Basic First Aid certification.
  • Previous experience working with children preferred.
  • Must be able to demonstrate instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions. Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in accordance to instruction.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Must have the ability to instruct and actively observe participants. Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk, use hands, stoop, and crouch. Regularly lifts up to pounds.


SALARY:
$15 - $18 p/h
