    Job Summary:


    The Department of Surgical Sciences at the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine seeks applicants for a position as a Teaching Assistant or Associate Professor in Small Animal Soft-Tissue and Oncologic Surgery.

    This position is open to surgeons wanting to focus on both soft-tissue and oncologic surgery or exclusively oncologic surgery.

    The successful candidate will make up a team of four surgeons providing soft-tissue and oncologic surgical care to patients within the UW Veterinary Care hospital.


    Teaching is the major responsibility of this position and individuals in the Teaching Professor Track at UW-Madison are involved in independent classroom, clinical and laboratory instruction as well as community and educational outreach efforts specific to their academic or clinical discipline.

    In addition, instructional design and development or enhancement of academic content using instructional technology, participation in curriculum development and other activities related to teaching, dissemination of teaching methods, and practice of the clinical disciplines of veterinary soft-tissue and oncologic surgery are expected.


    Duties include, but are not limited to:
    CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES 60%
    weeks of clinical coverage and teaching

    • Training and supervision of residents and interns
    • Clinical teaching of 4th year veterinary students
    NON-CLINICAL TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES 30%

    • Didactic teaching
    • Laboratory course teaching
    SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES 10%

    • Involvement in committees at the department, school, university, and professional organization levels
    • Participation in continuing education programs for veterinary practitioners in Wisconsin

    DVM - Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree


    Qualifications:


    American College of Veterinary Surgeons Board Certification or Board Eligibility with advanced training in soft -tissue and oncologic surgery at time of start date.

    We would also consider and individual with European College of Veterinary Surgeons Board Certification or eligibility at the time of start date.


    License/Certification:
    Required
    Wisconsin Veterinary License

    Must be eligible to obtain and maintain licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Wisconsin at the time of start date.

    It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

    Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.

    UW School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) is a wonderful workplace with enthusiastic students, technologists, residents, and other faculty specialists who work together to provide excellent veterinary medical care.

    SVM is nearing the end of construction on the new facility that will improve instruction space for students, double the size of the school's small animal hospital and significantly enhance the large animal hospital, expand labs for studying naturally occurring animal and human diseases, and increase and modernize infectious disease research space.

    The small new animal hospital will include state-of-the-art equipment such as laparoscopy, arthroscopy, flexible endoscopy, Zeiss surgical microscope, interventional radiology, gait analysis facility, ultrasound, CT, MRI, PET-CT, and 3D printing.
