**Academic Employee (f/m/d) with the Opportunity for a Doctorate
75% Part-Time**
Organizational Unit:Institute for Thermal Energy Technology and Safety (ITES)

Your Tasks:

To stabilize a power grid and prevent outages, there is a new concept for robust management that requires the presence of a smart metering infrastructure and takes into account the demand flexibility of electricity customers and their system criticality.

In times of acute power shortages or overload of the power grid, the supply can be systematically reduced to a lower state, effectively avoiding network problems.

The likelihood of power outages would be significantly reduced, making the energy system more resilient.

In order for this concept to be applied in smart distribution networks, globally optimal solutions for a large number of electricity customers (several thousand), in conjunction with non-convex functions involving alternating current flows, must be calculated in the sub-minute range.

Based on this concept, the main goal of your work is to develop an optimization algorithm for various smart grid configurations to calculate a theoretical active power value per electricity customer that is minimally reduced compared to normal demand and ensures a maximally stable alternating current flow below normal operation.

In detail, your tasks include:

  • Deepening of fundamental knowledge in the areas of smart grids, energy and distribution management, AC power flow (OPF), and (energy) resilience research
  • Formulation and analysis of the optimization problem based on a realistic smart grid model coupled with flexibly adjustable
