Introduction:

Central Library seeks a passionate Information Services Manager (Library Manager) to lead our team of programmers and information technicians. You'll supervise staff, set goals, and cultivate a positive work environment.

Your expertise will extend to program development for all ages, managing an allocated budget, scheduling, and delivering exceptional customer service.

You'll take full advantage of the unique offerings of Central Library, which include a Virginia history room, a digital preservation lab, a Makerspace, an outdoor programming field with a pollinator garden, and passport services, to serve the community and strengthen your skillset as a public services professional.


About This Role:


  • Supervises staff, including scheduling staff, creating goals, and writing evaluations, managing employees to maximize performance, approving timecards, and facilitating the staff discipline process.
  • Manages library programming for Youth and Adult Services, and Makerspace. Has an assigned budget and makes program purchasing decisions.
  • Provides excellent customer service at an integrated service desk including cash handling and financial paperwork.
  • Manages the facility, community room reservations, opening and closing, and submits maintenance requests as the person in charge.
  • Serves as a branch liaison participating in policy and procedure improvements and revisions and special committee assignments.
  • May supervise volunteers.
  • May include providing Passport Services.

Minimum Requirements:Require a Master's degree in library science and 2 years of library systems operations experience.


Preferences:


  • Supervisory experience to include scheduling, training, and personnel management.
  • Experience developing and implementing library programming for all ages.
  • Experience providing excellent customer service to include policy interpretation, helping visitors, and writing incident reports, and cash handling as needed.
  • 1year experience with collection management.
  • Experience managing a facility to include opening/closing a building and submitting maintenance requests as needed.

Special Requirements:
The position may require travel to other branches within the system. A DMV check will be conducted for employees who drive while on County business.


Work Schedule:

This is a full-time exempt position. Central Library is open Monday—Wednesday 10am to 8pm, and Thursday—Saturday 10am to 5pm. Scheduling flexibility is imperative. The schedule includes one evening per week and rotating Saturdays as assigned. Schedule may vary depending on the needs of the branch.


Starting Salary Range:
$82, $96,905.25
