A day in the life of this role:

The role of the Medical Assistant involves supporting the health care team in providing high-quality patient care by assisting providers with various patient flow, supply, and environmental tasks.

Summary of responsibilities:

Review electronic medical record (EMR) before patient's appointment
Ensure availability of lab results, consult reports, and hospital discharge records for the provider; note completion dates of recent primary care screening tests
Properly identify and escort patients to exam rooms; record visit reasons, medications, and update history as per protocol
Provide necessary forms to patients before provider/nurse visit
Accurately record vital signs, height, weight, and oxygen saturation
Assist in patient preparation for examination
Conduct hearing, vision, breathing, and EKG tests
Report abnormal findings to the provider
Recognize and report abnormal vital signs, seek assistance in emergencies
Assist providers with patient visits, diagnostic studies, treatments, and procedures
Monitor equipment function during procedures
Label, collect, and prepare lab specimens
Deliver specimens to the lab
Assist with patient examinations and procedures
Apply and remove dressings under provider guidance
Perform CLIA waived point of care testing
Participate in quality assurance activities and training seminars
Clean, wrap, and sterilize instruments
Assist with inventory and ordering of medical supplies
Maintain exam rooms per infection control standards
Ensure patient confidentiality
Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor with patients and coworkers
Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment
Keep work area organized and safe
Able to stand for extended periods and assist with patient mobility
Ability to travel between OCHS sites as necessary
Adherence to OCHS Policies and Procedures

Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent
Certified Medical Assistant or equivalent, BLS certification required, Phlebotomy training mandatory
