Position Summary:


Early Care and Education (ECE) operates an award-winning, accredited, nationally recognized program that is highly effective in supporting the recruitment and retention of faculty, students and staff who are key to the mission of the University.

Our name portrays the scope of our services to campus families, giving emphasis to the importance of early education experiences in light of knowledge gained from current brain development research.


Salary & Compensation:
*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years In the field of early childhood education (required)
  • Ability to speak English to be understood by young children, staff and parents and as required for food preparation and ability to read English text of children's stories (required)
  • Ability to write English for preparing written reports on conferences, child observations and staff evaluations (required)
  • Ability to use kitchen utensils and appliances safely and appropriately for preparation of meals (required)
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions regarding setup and supervision of activities and preparation of food (required)
  • Ability to relate to children ages two months to five years as required for supervision of indoor and outdoor activities, toileting, meals, snacks and nap time (required)
  • Ability to act quickly and appropriately in hazardous situations to prevent accidents and to provide first aid in emergency situations (required)
  • Ability to direct classroom staff in overall program (required)
  • Ability to train support staff through role modeling and verbal explanation (required)
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other staff in total child care program (required)
  • Skill in resolving problems in the face of conflict with children and adults (required)
  • Physical ability to lift and carry children and objects up to 40 pounds when necessary (frequent lifting) (required)
  • Certified in pediatric CPR and first aid (required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications, & Professional Affiliations:

  • Bachelor's Degree Child Development (preferred)
  • 24 ECE Units (required)
  • Knowledge of child development theory and best practices in early childhood group care and education. (required)
  • For positions in infant classrooms, at least three units of coursework in Infant Development (required)
  • CA Commission on Teacher Credentialing Continued
  • Master Teacher level teaching (or higher) permit (required)
