Job Summary


Under supervision of the Operating Engineers, maintain the building environment by assisting with the operation and maintenance of boilers, chillers, ventilation systems, compressors, pumps, elevators, laundry, water treatment, and building automation systems.


Typical Duties

  • Keeps equipment, systems, and buildings ready for use by assisting the Operating Engineer with completing emergency work orders and routine maintenance schedules, following policies and procedures, and reporting needed changes.
  • Maintains pumps by assisting with the installation, repair, and service of equipment.
  • Maintains public water supply, boiler, and chilled water systems, by collecting, testing, and analyzing samples. Maintains proper inventories of chemicals, parts, and reagents, for water apparatus. Maintains water supply chemical inventory contract balance sheets.
  • Maintains boiler room by checking and servicing associated and backup equipment and systems.
  • Ensures operation of equipment by monitoring computer automation system, troubleshooting malfunctions, and calling for repairs.
  • Maintains laundry by cleaning, greasing, and checking equipment.
  • Maintains continuity between shifts by documenting maintenance actions, noting system or equipment irregularities requiring continued monitoring.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with all established policies.
  • Maintains parts and equipment inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed parts and equipment, and notifying supervisor for reorder.
  • Documents and reports completion of all assignments.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required. (Must provide proof at time of interview)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

  • Familiarity with powerhouse equipment, HVAC systems, other mechanical systems, and hand/ power tools.
  • Good physical condition required in order to withstand extensive walking, prolonged physical exertions, and exposures to extreme weather conditions. Subject to working conditions including ability to stoop, climb, and handle tools and equipment as required.
May be required to work weekends and holidays, or other shifts as assigned
