Stew Leonard's, a family-owned and operated fresh food store founded in 1969, has seven stores in Norwalk, Danbury, and Newington, CT, Farmingdale, East Meadow & Yonkers, NY, and Paramus NJ.
Stew's earned its nickname, the "Disneyland of Dairy Stores" because of its country-fair atmosphere, with costumed characters and animated entertainment throughout the store that keep children entertained while parents shop.

Job Summary:
Responsible for overall sales and profitability of the department. Sales range from $2.5 - $7 Million based on store location.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize "The Round-Up" to make informed and insightful decisions
- Review daily sales.
- Ensure 90 day/6 month and annual reviews are conducted on time and are used as a tool to coach and develop team.
- Address poor performers /follow discipline procedures.
- Responsible for overall morale of department.
- Work with food safety team to comply with all health code regulations.
- Work with team to ensure proper dated product.
- Help identify and develop new products through signs, packaging and show & sell.
- Work with demo manager and provide high sales and gross profit items for demo.
- Review returns and customer comments and act on them.
- Attend all department bash meetings and strategy meetings and follow up on all agreed goals.
- Review all "top 20" and "hit list" year round.
- Lead department holiday planning; identify sales and other strategies.
- Share ideas and new "best sellers" with each store.
- Constantly update product and create new items.
- Conduct weekly price surveys/review competitors' ads and react as needed to remain competitive.
- Find and react to "hit and run" buys for profitability.
- Control inventory levels to ensure turnover and less waste.
- Evaluate merchandising opportunities daily to maximize GP.
- Review openkey report weekly to ensure proper ringing and speedy customer service.
- Review daily punches, weekly schedules, and prior weeks' results look for opportunities to improve efficiencies/better labor management
- Annual reviews
- Conduct monthly inventory
- Review all monthly financial results with department management team and look for opportunities to make improvement.
Education and Experience:
- HS Diploma; Associates Degree preferred
- 5+ years of direct bakery operation and production experience through all seasons and holidays
- Has experience creating and managing production estimates in a high volume bakery. Has experience maximizing freshness by managing onhand inventory, date control, and rotation
- Has experience producing with industrial capacity equipment in a scratch bakery environment
- Hands on experience in multiple sales departments with a particular emphasis on perishable areas.
- Can use the roundup to identify sale opportunities, create estimates, and use the piggy bank for labor scheduling
- Has experience writing POs, creating intrastore transfers, taking a physical inventory, and auditing the PO register
- Has experience managing vendor relationships to balance cost, quality, and availability
- Has experience training new team members on all areas of bakery operation
- Has strong merchandising ability
- Ability to prioritize, delegate and multi task
- Great communication skills

Working Conditions:
- Time split between office work and in production area.
- Due to the use of the baking ovens, the temperature in the department maybe warmer than room temperature.
- Occasional standing, walking and lifting.
