Under the general direction of the Assistant Director of the Employee Safety Oversight Unit within the Environmental Health & Safety Department, the Training and Communications Administrator performs very responsible work in the planning, implementation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of the NYCHA community's safety training program and community-wide messaging.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Plan and prepare health and safety communications such as advisories for the NYCHA community of residents and employees. This includes researching policies and procedures, analyzing
inspection data to identify and drive critical messaging and maintaining the SafeNYCHA webpage and employee safety newsletters.

  • Coordinate the planning and administration of the health and safety training program including supervision of EHS trainers.
  • Perform continuous analyses of the training program's overall performance, tracks key indicators and resources to prepare program evaluation reports.
  • Provide technical assistance, training and coaching to the training staff to ensure effective management of the program. Recruits staff as needed.
  • Prepare routine reports for Senior Leadership, Compliance Department, and Operations Depts on safety training metrics to identify areas for improvement.
  • Make recommendations on EHS policies and procedures based on real-time feedback from training participants or research conducted as part of training preparation.
  • Conduct analysis of the training program to prepare staffing and resource planning documents to obtain adequate funding on an annual basis or as needed.
  • Develops and administers surveys to collect and document feedback on trainings and other health and safety matters in order to make improvement and address the concerns and needs of
the NYCHA community.

  • Implement a robust quality assurance program to ensure safety trainers are performing adequately and unit is providing consistent content.
  • Stay up to date on policy and regulations, and use feedback received during Safety Trainings to continuously evaluate and improve training materials.
  • Foster a growth and learning environment within the EHS Department through the development of EHS curriculum, safety training initiatives, identifying and promoting resources for
independent learning
- e.g., webinars, conferences, online courses, and creating opportunities for peer-guided training.

  • Conduct training on an as needed basis.
  • Develop and maintain the program manual, policies and procedures to ensure documentation and appropriate oversight of the training program.
  • Lead communication around the SafeNYCHA agenda, including safety congress meeting management and information sharing.

Minimum Qualifications1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or

  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
Preferred Skills1. Experienced safety trainer. 2. Experience in managing a safety training program. 3.

Excellent verbal skills ability to write clearly and persuasively ability to edit others writing discipline to work independently or in complex group dynamics and meet short time frames.

4.

Background in environmental health and safety with the ability to review and understand technical information and translate it effectively to lay audiences.

5. Strong familiarity with environmental health and safety regulations at the local, state, and federal levels. 6. Advanced skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 7.
