Introduction:


Trap Pond was once the site of a large freshwater wetland and still hosts the country's northernmost natural stand of baldcypress trees.

The pond was created in the late 1700s to power a sawmill used in harvesting the baldcypress.

Summary Statement:

A variety of seasonal park positions may be available at Trap Pond State Park:

Day Camp Counselor:
$13.25
- is responsible for leading activities for summer camps and assists with the supervision of campers to ensure and maintain a fun, positive and safe camp environment. Camps run Monday through Friday, June through mid-late August depending on site.

Work is performed indoors and outdoors, weekends, evenings and holidays as scheduled to meet facility needs.


For Camp Positions - Monday through Friday will be needed throughout the camp season. Additional work on weekends, evenings and holidays may be scheduled.


Essential Functions:

  • May develop and facilitate educational programs for schools and special events.
  • May lead school environmental education programs tied to state standards to increase student understanding of Delaware's natural and cultural resources.
  • May deliver interpretive programs to participants of all ages in a variety of contexts.
  • Provides general customer service and park information to visitors.
  • Distributes interpretive publications
  • May lead educational and recreational hikes, canoe and kayak trips plus programs for park visitors.
  • May include live animal care and handling.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Other duties as assigned. Job Requirements

Job Requirements:


Job Requirements for Trap Pond Day Camp Counselor
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

Day Camp Counselor

  • Must be at least 17 years of age.
  • Six months experience planning and delivering interpretive programs for adults and children.
  • Six months experience coordinating and promoting special events or initiatives.
  • Knowledge of public speaking or interpretation
  • Knowledge of various recreational activities such as hiking, mountain biking, boating, rock climbing or swimming.
  • Knowledge of local plants, animals or history.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.
