The Executive Director manages and directs the work of the Los Angeles region's climate collaborative, a network of local climate practitioners and leaders.

The incumbent will develop and implement multiple projects involving individuals inside and outside the university; develop and manage proposals to solicit grant, contract, and gift funding; and oversee all aspects of outreach and communication to local, regional, state, and national partners, including hosting regular network meetings and public events.

It is expected that the Executive Director will function with a high degree of autonomy, execute multiple concurrent projects, and ensure the continued stability and growth of the LARC network.

They should have held previous leadership roles, experience in local government, and have engagement experience with students, staff, faculty, academic leaders, corporate leaders, community leaders, foundations, and government agencies conducting climate action and adaptation planning efforts.

Qualifications:

  • 45 years Experience working with local and State government agencies as a specialist in the climate policy field. (required)
  • 45 years Experience managing operations of a nonacademic program within a university or small nonprofit organization (preferred)
  • 45 years Experience with collaborations and partnerships work (required)
  • 45 years Experience in budgeting and financial planning (required)
  • 810 years Experience in climate change and sustainability, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • 810 years Experience working in higher education, nonprofit, or business settings. (required)
  • 810 years years Strong communication skills, and enthusiasm for facilitating meetings and events. (required)
  • 810 years Experience with mentoring. (required)
  • 810 years Demonstrated proficiency in English language usage and superior oral and written communication skills. (required)
  • 810 years Experience in planning meetings and events. (preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of climate change impacts, adaptation, GHG mitigation measures and sustainability policy (required)
  • Knowledge of city governments, local organizations, regional agencies, and California environmental policy (required)
  • Ability to make high level contacts of a sensitive nature with discretion and diplomacy (required)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and influence, both verbally and n writing (required)
  • Advanced project management skills (required)
  • Ability to develop, prepare, and manage a complex program budget with multiple funding sources including grants, contracts, and gifts (required)
  • Ability to work independently with mínimal oversight (required)
  • Proficiency in personal computing and software programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Google Suite (required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications, & Professional Affiliations:

  • Master's Degree Degree in urban planning or environmental science, education, policy or a related field of study, or equivalent experience/training (preferred) And
  • Bachelor's Degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training (required)

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends as required. (required)
