Position Summary/Purpose of Position:


  • The Assistant Program Director is a leadership position serving as the primary student services liaison for the Social Data Science (SDSC) major, an interdisciplinary and crosscollege undergraduate major at the University of Maryland. This position is 80% with the Feller Center for Academic Advising & Career Planning in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences and 20% with the Student Services Office in the College of Information Studies.

This position:
(1) leads student services for the Social Data Science major, (2) trains and develops materials for academic advisors for all SDSC units across three colleges, (3) creates and manages events for SDSC students, (4) tracks student data and creates regular reports regarding SDSC student success, (5) oversees student-related administrative responsibilities for the SDSC major. This is a new position that will join a student-centered, team-oriented work environment where faculty and staff who are eager to engage with and make a difference in the lives of undergraduate students are able to contribute their talents and grow as professionals.

Minimum Qualifications:


Education:


  • Bachelor's degree.

Experience:


  • 6 years of advising or relevant experience in a higher education setting required.
  • Experience collecting, managing, and analyzing data in spreadsheets and databases.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Outstanding communications skills, ability to listen for understanding and with empathy.
  • Ability to work as part of a fluid team in multiple work spaces as well as independently.
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment, meet deadlines, and remain organized.
  • Proficiency in learning and using a variety of online campusbased software systems.

Preferences:

  • Master's degree.
  • Degrees in Behavioral and Social Sciences, Data Science, Information Science, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Psychology or related field preferred.
