Duties:


  • Serve as working leader of 410 employees in accomplishing trades and labor work.
  • Work alongside other workers setting the pace, and provide guidance and instruction on proper work methods as necessary.
  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment.
  • Operate and lead operation on a variety of dump trucks, tractor/trailers and equipment with special attachments.

  • This position requires the employee must possess and maintain a valid California Commercial Driver license (CDL Class A endorsement).
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position requires the completion of a preemployment Physical Examination.

Physical Effort:Work involves constant bending, reaching, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet and legs to handle and adjust different sets of controls.

Considerable strain is caused by constant vibration, loud mechanical noise, jerking and jolting from operations over rough surfaces. Frequently works in awkward or strained positions. Work is sometimes performed under adverse operating conditions.
Some work requires long periods of standing and walking. Operation of equipment requires good hand and eye coordination and depth perception. Steer and operate by using clutches, levers, brakes, and valves according to the slope or tilt. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally heavier.

Working Conditions:Works outside in extreme weather conditions and periodically in open driver's seat or on platforms. Works on all types of terrain.
Operates and leads others in all types of heavy engineering equipment with complicated controls.

Exposed to injury from overturning of equipment, extremely hot and smoky wildfire conditions, working around underground gas, steam, power,communication, and water lines.

Exposed to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, hot and cold temperatures, fumes, and hazardous or flammable materials. There is a possibility of cuts, scrapes, burns, bruises, and strains.

Majority of the work is performed within the USAG Fort Hunter Liggett training area, or surrounding area, and often on or near the live fire footprint where the individual is exposed to unexploded ordnance (dud munitions).

Due to live fire restrictions, freedom of movement may be inhibited.

When digging, the individual may be required to wear a Kevlar helmet, body armor, impact resistant glasses, and other protective gear.

Individual must be able to wear safety protective equipment, such as safety boots, safety glasses with side shields, goggles,hearing protection, and hard hat or appropriate equipment.


Education:

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this position, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
