Responsibilities/Duties:


The Director of Financial Aid is the chief administrator for the delivery of all financial assistance programs including federal, state, institutional and private grants, scholarships, employment, and loan programs for the university's undergraduate and graduate students in a manner that ensures sound fiscal management, regulatory compliance, and student access.


This position reports directly to the Vice President for Enrollment Management and is based on the Concordia-Chicago campus in River Forest, IL.


  • Provides leadership for the department staff, including those at the midmanagement level
  • Supports senior leadership with external partner to meet enrollment goals
  • Responsible for reporting required data to federal and state agencies
  • Responsible for all federal and state audits
  • Administers Satisfactory Academic Progress for students seeking financial aid eligibility
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state and NCAA Division III regulations
  • Responsible for annual Banner set up for new academic year award processing
  • Maintains current knowledge of federal and state regulations related to student financial aid

  • Demonstrated evidence of thorough understanding of the role of financial aid programs within a private college environment
  • Demonstrated evidence of thorough understanding of the military education benefits
  • Demonstrated evidence of technology implementation and management/use of userdeveloped and useroriented databases in the financial aid operation
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with students, families, alumni and university personnel
  • High level technical skills to set up annual rollover processes including problem solving and critical solving skills for troubleshooting
  • Commitment to serving a diverse student population
  • Evidence of effective organizational skills and strong management skills
  • An understanding and commitment to the mission, goals and values of Concordia University, a Christian, Lutheran, university affiliated with The Lutheran Church
  • Missouri Synod

Minimum Experience Required:


  • A minimum of 68 years demonstrated progressive experience administering college or university financial aid programs
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience supervising staff, preparing and managing budgets and counseling students receiving financial aid
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience managing complex financial aid program budgets in a manner that ensures regulatory compliance
  • Ellucian Banner experience preferred

Education Requirements
Bachelor's Degree required - Master's Degree preferred
