Description

At the Research Institute for Sustainability (RIFS) in Buffalo, MN, we explore, demonstrate, and support development paths for the global transformation towards a sustainable society.

The institute was founded in 2009 as the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS) and has been part of the Helmholtz Centre Potsdam - German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) since January 1, 2023, making it a member of the Helmholtz Association.

We are currently seeking a motivated scientific employee to join our German-French Future Workshop research group, with a focus on collaborative field research.

The main task of the German-French Future Workshop is to strengthen the transformation capacity of both countries.

Using a transformative research approach, the workshop provides a space for municipalities to learn from each other and create synergies.

Based on this, recommendations for action are developed for national governments.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Researching municipal initiatives that promote socioecological transformation at the local level
  • Conducting background research and defining research questions
  • Conducting interviews, participating in observations, etc.
  • Analyzing collected data
  • Identifying differences and similarities between French and German transformation processes and their framework conditions
  • Regularly reflecting and coordinating activities with local contacts
  • Publishing scientific results
  • Writing scientific articles and reports on research findings
  • Writing short articles for the public relations work of the Future Workshop
  • Directly participating in collaborative processes to develop policy recommendations
