Pharmaceutical Technical Assistants (PTAs) work under the supervision of a pharmacist to dispense medication, prepare ointments and other prescriptions, and test drugs and chemicals in the pharmacy laboratory for quality.

This job is characterized by personal interactions with customers, providing advice and health education to patients, and requires a strong knowledge base, a sense of responsibility, and a passion for working with people.


The 2.5-year training program consists of two years of theoretical and practical classroom instruction, followed by a six-month internship in a pharmacy.

With the growing awareness of health in our society, the role of a PTA is becoming increasingly important.


To be eligible for the training program, applicants must have a high school diploma with an average grade of 3.5 or higher.


The professional learning area includes:

  • Dispensing prescriptions
  • Providing advice and over-the-counter medication
  • Offering and providing services
  • Participating in business development and management
  • Quality control
  • Preparing medications
The cross-professional learning area includes: * German/communication * English/communication

Workplaces for PTAs include:

  • Pharmaceutical and chemical companies
  • Pharmaceutical or cosmetic industry
  • Health insurance companies
  • Pharmaceutical representatives
  • Universities/PTA schools
