The project

Non-circular rolling is a process in the field of bulk forming, which is suitable for the production of symmetrical and asymmetrical forging preforms.

The material flow occurs in a radial direction, while an axial flow is deliberately prevented. The rolling process allows for the creation of multiple locally non-circular sections in a cylindrical semi-finished product.

This makes it possible, for example, to form multiple elliptical and/or eccentric areas, while the rest of the semi-finished product remains circular.

For further analysis of the forming process, simulations based on the finite element method (FEM) will be carried out and evaluated.

Your tasks

Non-circular rolling is used to produce preforms and intermediate forms for a stage plan, so that they can be further processed, for example, by die forging.

The question is, for which target geometries are non-circular rolled preforms and intermediate forms particularly suitable? This will be the central question of the thesis.

The following tasks will be addressed during the work:

  • Design work using CAD software Creo Parametrics or SolidWorks
  • Creation of test plans according to
