Doctoral Candidate in Aerodynamic Behavior of Compressors with Inlet Disturbances (all genders)

Reference Number - AEAV 716
In the design of a compressor, a homogeneous inflow is typically assumed.

However, a curved inlet, which may be necessary due to space constraints, or crosswinds during flight can lead to an inhomogeneous inflow to the compressor.

This can have a negative impact on the efficiency and stability of the compressor. To evaluate this influence using CFD simulations, complex and time-consuming unsteady models are usually required.

A faster alternative is the use of analytical methods, which model the aerodynamic behavior of disturbed and undisturbed compressor sectors and determine the overall effect on the compressor through combined calculation of the individual sectors.

The aim of this doctoral thesis is to further develop calculation methods for evaluating compressor behavior with disturbed inflow, as well as to investigate the aerodynamic coupling between compressor and inlet flow.

Based on available measurement data, validated CFD simulations will be derived to examine in detail the aerodynamic effects
