Description

The Texas Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Inspector General was established to combat fraud, waste, and abuse in publicly funded Health and Human Services programs.

The OIG Policy and Strategic Initiatives team supports this mission by providing OIG staff with policy guidance, making policy and contract recommendations, and evaluating and recommending potential future work (e.g., audits, inspections, investigations, data reviews).


Essential Job Functions:


  • Conducts policy research to inform future audits, inspections, investigations, and data reviews. Research topics may span the entire Texas health and human services (HHS) system and Texas Medicaid programs and services.
  • Evaluates potential policy and program integrity issues and makes recommendations.
  • Develops reference materials for OIG staff.
  • Attends policy meetings with OIG leadership.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:


  • Knowledge of, and ability to read and interpret, state and federal laws and rules.
  • Skills working well with individuals and teams toward a common goal.
  • Skills using office equipment and software (e.g., Microsoft Office suite).
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to prepare wellwritten, concise briefing documents and reports, and visually dynamic presentations.

Initial Selection Criteria:


  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program in public policy, social science, public health, public affairs, or a related field.
