Responsibilities
In the field of corporate research and development at Mercedes-Benz Cars, we shape the future generations of automobiles. We create innovative products with the highest quality and efficient development processes. We constantly work on vehicles that will secure Daimler's technological leadership in the future.

The Battery Development Center is responsible for the development of high-voltage batteries at Mercedes-Benz AG. This includes developing concepts with suitable cell and module technologies and testing them with prototypes.

New cell technologies are the heart of every battery system. The rapid technological development will continue in the coming years. In our chemistry laboratory in Stuttgart-Untertürkheim, we want to build, test, and evaluate new cell technologies. The tasks of this laboratory include researching new materials for the next generation of batteries. Among the many different approaches, solid-state electrolyte technology seems very promising.

Mercedes-Benz is looking for a candidate to research these new types of electrolytes.

The scope of this doctoral thesis includes investigating new electrolyte materials with a focus on studying the interfaces between the active materials and the solid-state electrolytes.

By using appropriate analytical methods and electrochemical testing procedures, a foundation for understanding and knowledge will be created to improve the functioning of a complete solid-state cell.

The position requires the researcher to develop and independently carry out a research plan based on specifications.

Detailed job description:

  • Conducting a literature review on solidstate chemistry and systems to gain an overview of future research directions
  • Experimental investigation of solidstate electrolyte systems
