What we want


The Public Relations Manager works directly with the Assistant Vice President for Marketing and Communications of Texas A&M Health to develop, implement and manage a comprehensive public and external relations program for the Texas A&M Health Science Center (Texas A&M Health).

Required Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, media relations or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five years of related experience in marketing, external relations, event planning or communications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Superior proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge of Associated Press Style
  • Skilled project, time and client management
  • Knowledge of project management systems (i.e., Asana, Teams, ClickUp)
  • Familiarity of local, state, national and trade publications
  • Familiarity with turnkey event planning
  • Ability to selfdirect, selfmotivate and problem solve
  • Ability to work in a dispersed team environment
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding
  • Ability to maintain discretion and nondisclosure of sensitive information

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Master's degree in relevant field
  • Health care communications and/or media relations experience
  • Experience with technologies and best practices for media campaigns across multiple platforms.
  • Event planning experience

Responsibilities:


Media Relations

  • Coordinates news events on campus. Writes, edits, and distributes communications through internal and external channels, and distributes news throughout University channels.
  • Researches, interviews, writes and edits stories, pitches and media advisories across Texas A&M Health.
  • Assures all products conform to journalistic standards to adhere to the Texas Health editorial style guidelines.
  • Builds relationship with reporters and editors across local, state, national and trade publications.
  • Develops and manages media campaigns across multiple platforms.
  • Builds targeted distribution lists and relationships to elevate the Texas A&M Health brand.
  • Assists with writing executive communications, including key messaging, holding statements, briefing documents, situational FAQs and other institutional messaging.
  • Monitor social, economic, health, academic and political trends that might affect our organization or provide proactive pitch opportunities and recommend ways to enhance the institutions image on the basis of those trends.

Planning and Coordination

  • Works with the Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Communications to develop tiered media strategies that engages, informs and attracts target audiences across Texas A&M Health's communication channels.
  • Manages the strategic public relations plan, executes tactics, keeps projects on task and delivers projects on time.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with key individuals across the institution to mine for pitches, stories and identify opportunities to collaborate with not only media but our internal government relations, community partnerships and philanthropy teams.

External Relations

  • Serves as a departmental project manager for institutional priorities, initiatives and largescale projects with an external focus.
  • Cultivates crossuniversity relationships, and vendor relationships.
  • Manages all sponsorships, memberships and community awareness associated with those.
  • In coordination with the Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Communications serves as a primary liaison with the executive team during crisis communications or related reactive media responses.
