    Description

    Mechanic / Technician at FedEx Freight


    As a Mechanic / Technician with FedEx Freight, you will utilize your experience with heavy equipment and diesel mechanic education to maintain and repair our fleet of diesel tractors. In addition to tractors, diesel mechanics are responsible for trailers, forklifts, and other equipment that require preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, modifications, and repairs.

    POSITION OVERVIEW:


    To deliver timely, quality, and cost-effective repair and maintenance for the vehicle fleet, including tractors, trailers, forklifts, and other equipment that necessitate preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, modifications, and repairs.




    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



    • Performs preventive and routine maintenance on tractors, trailers, forklifts, and other equipment
    • Conducts basic diagnostics to identify trouble sources and makes necessary adjustments to equipment for safe and efficient operation
    • Collaborates with other technicians to perform preventive maintenance and repairs
    • Ensures accurate documentation of all maintenance tasks performed, including written and electronic reports
    • Conducts safety inspections of equipment and documents the details
    • Executes paint and body work on vehicles as needed
    • Adheres to all relevant laws, regulations, company policies, and procedures
    • Performs other necessary duties

    QUALIFICATIONS


    • High School Diploma (or GED), preferred
    • At least one year of experience in vehicle maintenance or possession (or close proximity to obtaining) a vehicle maintenance certificate from an accredited trade school or completion of the FedEx Freight, Inc. Apprentice Program with satisfactory performance
    • Possession of one or more Medium/Heavy Truck ASE Certifications and Class A CDL is preferred
    • Must have the necessary tools for assigned tasks
    • Some roles may require a valid driver's license
    • Proficiency in using testing equipment, gauges, and tools for vehicle troubleshooting and repairs
    • Basic computer skills for maintenance programs and diagnostic systems
    • Fundamental understanding of gas and diesel engines
    • Familiarity with precision measurement instruments, oxygen/acetylene equipment, and lifting devices such as jacks and cranes
    • Capable of lifting components weighing around 110 pounds with the right equipment or assistance
    • Ability to operate vehicles with manual and automatic transmission
    • Proficient in vehicle body and paint work
    • Able to work independently or as part of a team
    • Basic written and verbal communication skills

    WORKING CONDITIONS:


    • Exposure to heavy traffic areas during work
    • Exposure to dust, diesel fumes, and noise
    • May need to drive a service van to remote sites for work
    • Subject to local climate conditions
    • Exposure to various chemicals and irritants
    • Work hours may vary based on operational needs
