Description/Duties & Responsibilities:


APPROXIMATE DAYS/HOURS:


  • 34 days per week
  • 34 hours per day hours per week)
  • Schedule is flexible (days/hours vary and could include some evenings and weekends in addition to the regular work schedule)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Tracks and records volunteer hours in Samaritan software and keeps appropriate records of volunteers
  • Helps coordinate volunteer opportunities with other departments/divisions
  • Prepares weekly volunteer listings on website and social media
  • Helps identify opportunities that will promote growth on social media sites
  • Contributes to, and regularly updates, social media sites, such as Facebook, X, and Instagram
  • Photographs, develops content, and promotes ideas for social media posts, news articles, and volunteerrelated events and projects
  • Monitors social media outlets on a daily basis and posts/responds accordingly
  • Establishes positive working relationships with volunteers, other City staff, and local agencies and groups to connect volunteers with the appropriate volunteer opportunities
  • Researches volunteer opportunities in the community
  • Conducts outreach to local nonprofits, clubs, and organizations
  • Assists with events and projects as needed
  • Assists with data entry and clerical tasks
  • Monitors and maintains inventory of supplies
  • Performs other duties, as assigned by Volunteer Engagement Supervisor

Education and Experience:


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • One year of general office experience performing clerical duties and support function
  • One year college coursework in a related field is highly desirable
  • One year of volunteerism and/or experience working with volunteers is highly desirable
  • Possession of a valid California Class C driver license and safe driving record
  • Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary will be considered

  • Excellent interpersonal, research, analytical, and customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing
  • Extensive social media experience (Facebook, X, Instagram)
  • Highly organized, detailoriented, and able to prioritize and multitask
  • Enthusiastic, responsible, professional, and reliable team player
  • Excellent computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong understanding of spelling, grammar, and punctuation rules and attention to detail with the ability to proofread and edit for accuracy and relevance; strong writing skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Knowledge of Santa Clarita community and events is highly desirable
  • Ability to lift, drag, and push files and equipment weighing 25 pounds or more

APPLICATION PROCESS


All offers of employment with the City of Santa Clarita are made contingent upon receipt of proof of legal right to work in the United States and successful completion of a post-offer pre-employment physical which may include a drug screen and Physical Abilities Test, and Department of Justice fingerprinting.

Criminal offender information will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. The City uses the E-Verify program to electronically confirm work authorization of newly hired employees.


As a City of Santa Clarita public employee, you may be called upon to work as a Disaster Service Worker (DSW) in the event of an emergency (in accordance with Government Code Before entering upon the duties of employment, all public employees, except those excluded by law, take and subscribe to an oath or affirmation set forth in the California Constitution, declaring them to be Disaster Service Workers in time of need.

In addition, part-time, temporary, and seasonal (PTS) employees may be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program. This program authorizes the City to receive a driver record report upon enrollment and during employment.

PTS workers are at-will. Generally, PTS employees are limited to no more than 999 hours.
