We provide comprehensive programs that focus on building human assets and fostering self-sufficiency.


As the Part-Time enrichment instructor, you will be an important part of the Refugee Health Promotion program, which promotes the health and well-being of eligible newcomers by providing opportunities to increase health literacy, peer support, physical exercise, and wellness groups.

The YMCA hopes to combine its long history of supporting physical health and well-being with its expertise in providing refugee services by establishing a soccer field at the Alief YMCA.

The Part-Time enrichment instructor will outreach in the area, recruit participants, schedule practices and matches, and refer engaged clients to the peer support groups for further assistance.


Duties /Responsibilities

The Part-Time enrichment instructor's primary responsibilities include:

  • Inform eligible newcomers about the Alief YMCA soccer practices.
  • Invite interested newcomers to the soccer field for practice sessions
  • Ensure that interested newcomers are eligible for programming by checking immigration status and arrival date
  • Oversee practice soccer sessions and soccer matches
  • Provide instruction to clients who are interested in but not familiar with soccer rules
  • Assist YMCA Operations staff in creating and maintaining safety protocols at the Alief YMCA for clients playing soccer
  • Help to ensure that soccer equipment is safely stored after each practice/match
  • Record attendance and send attendance reports to Health Education Coordinator on a weekly basis
  • Refer clients to peer support groups whenever possible.
  • Work closely with Peer Support Group Instructors to ensure that soccer matches do not overlap with support groups
  • Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations, as required by all YMCA employees.
  • Follow mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements, as required by all YMCA employees.
  • Meet timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance. An example includes but is not limited to UKG for review and approval of timesheets, as required by all YMCA employees.

Annual Outcomes and Indicators

  • Conduct 5 outreach & information sessions in the community during the first quarter
  • Recruit at least 22 newcomers to learn soccer and participate in matches (2 teams of 11)
  • Refer at least 5 newcomers to Peer Support Group Instructors to be enrolled in Peer Support Groups
  • Fluency in English required
  • Experience playing soccer required
  • Able to work outside during evenings and weekends
  • Driver's license required

Note:
Positions are filled in response to current refugee arrivals and their language needs. As language needs change, this necessitates flexibility in our staffing.
