JOB SUMMARY


The art and music teachers will provide short-term, engaging learning opportunities for scholars in the afternoon following the Summer Elementary Mathematics Laboratory experience for 4th grade scholars.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Other essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Monitor lunch/recess when scholars are finished with morning programming.
  • Collaboratively plan and facilitate engaging afternoon activities for scholars culminating in a performance/exhibition for parents at the end of the week.
  • Utilize "best" classroom management practices to create a learning environment that is conducive to learning and enhances scholars' selfesteem.
  • Collaborate with the art/music and PE teacher to provide a daily schedule of programming to meet scholars' needs.
  • Attend a "Summer EML Kickoff" event to meet parents and scholars.

Training:


  • Must be able to commit to training prior to the start of the program.
  • Must commit to full program uninterrupted by appointments and/or vacations.
  • All positions are based on enrollment.

Time commitment:


  • June 19, 2024, from 5:30pm7:00pm (Summer kickoff); June 24, 2024, through June 28, 2024, 11:30am to 3:30pm (0.5 hour of planning before and after scholar programming from noon to 3pm).

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Current appropriate Michigan teaching certification.
  • Have either a current effective or highly effective final evaluation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Demonstrated understanding of current research as to how children learn and the ability to motivate scholars to perform at their best.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an economically, culturally, and racially diverse environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction, by using a variety of styles, and inspire mixed culture and ability classes by creating challenging and engaging learning opportunities for all scholars.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate as a member of the team.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse and demanding workload.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. Work is performed indoors although there will be required outdoor activities. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile, and negotiate.
