Position Summary:


The Stravitz Sanyal Institute for Liver and Metabolic Disease (SSLI) Patient Access Manager serve as operational manager responsible for daily administration of multiple components of patient access for SSLI services.

They may be responsible for ensuring that clinical access activities are carried out in accordance with SSLI objectives. They may collaborate with other institutes within VCU, VCU Health or with outside groups such as community-based organizations.

The SSLI Patient Access Manager provides support to the SSLI Clinical and Research Divisions and works in coordination with the VCU Health Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition.

In consultation with senior clinical and research leadership, they develop processes and implement new programs for patient access to clinical services.

Program Managers work under intermittent supervision, resolving routine issues independently. The Patient Access Manager reports to the Director of Nursing.

Core Responsibilities:


  • Facilitates the implementation of all hepatology scheduling pathways for patients accessing outpatient clinical services across all standard of care and clinical research settings (work effort 30%)
  • Ensures patient access and hepatology scheduling pathways are aligned with SSLI care pathways (work effort 30%)
  • Collaborates with all departments and team members involved in outpatient clinical service access to ensure appropriate and timely patient access in accordance with SSLI care pathways (work effort 30%)
  • Provides oversight and management of clinic schedules and calendars for clinical providers (10%)
  • Maintains a strong collaborative relationship with VCU and VCU Health members, international site partners, directors, and program coordinators
  • Supervise and coordinate work of any designated employees

Minimum Hiring Standards:


  • Ability to advise interdisciplinary team in area of expertise
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication in daily interactions
  • Proven ability to clearly articulate specific information in regards to patient access and clinical operations
  • Ability to advise team on the implementation and modification of technological components of scheduling pathways for access to clinical services
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret information for leadership
  • Ability to oversee team training and access to E-HR in regards to scheduling pathways
  • Exemplify the organization's educational mission, strategic aims, and programs
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Previous experience working in field of Hepatology
  • Deep knowledge of the operations and maintenance of the VCU Health eHR (EPIC) in regards to patient access, provider clinic schedules, and clinic operational templates
years of relevant professional experience with patient access in outpatient clinical services
