    The Arizona Game and Fish Department manages fish and wildlife in Arizona and under the authority of the Arizona Game and Fish Commission, creates and implements scientific methods and regulations to effectively manage fish and wildlife habitat via conservation, enforcement, hunting, fishing, watercraft and off-highway vehicle recreation, and shooting sports.

    Job Summary:


    The Habitat Evaluation & Lands Program Manager will be responsible for planning, organizing and administering the habitat evaluation program and wildlife areas which includes budget, hiring, supervision, training and evaluation of the Habitat Specialist and Wildlife Area Manager.


    Job Duties:

    • Oversee habitat evaluation program and management of wildlife areas.
    • Coordinate, review and evaluation of proposed land and water projects and participates in public land management planning processes.
    • Review and evaluate land management plans and develop Department positions and responses including proposed mitigation to offset potential adverse impacts to fish, wildlife and habitat.
    • Establish, coordinate and oversee cooperating agency status on federal land management plans and projects and protect and utilize state wildlife management authorities on federal plans and projects.
    • Communicate, cooperate, and collaborate with federal, state, and local agencies and with private entities to develop plans, actions and mitigation to compensate for loss of fish and wildlife habitat and/or to improve existing habitat.
    • Serves as regional expert on environmental laws and NEPA processes.
    • Prepare, compile, edit and present reports, plans and presentations to management.
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):


    The candidate will have knowledge of habitat evaluation procedures; habitat management and enhancement techniques; laws, policies, procedures and regulations of federal and state land management agencies; experimental design; study implementation; data collection analysis; fish, wildlife, and plants including their habitat requirements.

    Candidates will be skilled in written and oral communication; mediation; negotiation; GIS; supervision; computer and software.

    The candidate will be able to work effectively with other people; safely operate and maintain equipment including 4-wheel drive vehicles; effectively manage time and handle multiple projects; use and interpret maps and effectively participate in and/or run meetings.


    Selective Preference(s):


    The preferred candidate will have a Master's in wildlife/biological sciences or in a related field and have experience in NEPA, ESA, negotiation training, and GIS.


    Pre-Employment Requirements:
    The candidate must have a Bachelor's or advanced degree in fisheries or wildlife management.


    Employment is also contingent upon completion of a post-offer medical/physical examination and the agency's ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.


    If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply.

    Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver's license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver's license record checks.

    The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked or suspended.

    Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training.

    An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R
