    Duties

    If selected for this position, you will serve as a Victim Assistance Specialist for the United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Georgia. Typical work assignments will include:

    • Responding to victim inquiries concerning a variety of difficulties they may experience as a direct result of a crime and determining program eligibility for victim services.
    • Identifying resources and providing referrals to crime victims, their families, and witnesses.
    • Providing information and notifications to victims on public court hearings, schedule changes, status of defendant's pleas, and outcomes of hearings.
    • Providing in-court support to victims and educating victim on the process during and prior to hearings and trials, including aiding in the preparation of victim impact statements.
    • Managing victim cases in computer systems and court systems and troubleshooting problems to ensure accurate case management and timely court notifications are provided to victims, and that the case passes to BOP after sentence.
    • Collaborating with law enforcement personnel, Federal investigative agency victim specialists and social service providers.
    • Developing and implementing strategies for spreading information and providing information about victim and witness protection laws, victim topics and issues, policies, and programs.

    Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

    Qualifications

    To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience.

    GS-11 Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level. Specialized experience is defined as providing complex assistance and liaison services to crime victims. This specialized experience is defined as experience performing the following types of duties: providing routine resource referrals to crime victims and their families; providing extensive assistance to victims and their families in navigating the court process along with victim assistance programs and resources available and the effectiveness of these programs; notifying victims of court dates and hearing outcomes; serving as a liaison between the victim and court personnel, law enforcement, and or community agencies; and conducting or facilitating trainings or meetings with victim-witness subject-matter specialists and related officials.

    Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., law, criminal justice, psychology, social work, or counseling): a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.

    Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 2 full years

    Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
