Job Description:


Responsibilities:

  • 50%: Research activities including experimental procedures, analysis of data, and communicating results
  • 20%:
Prepare and submit manuscripts. Present research results at meetings and conferences

  • 10%:
Management of research staff including undergraduate researchers and postdoctoral researchers

  • 10%:
Training undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdocs in experimental procedures and analysis techniques

  • 5%:
Overseeing lab operations including safety compliance and lab tidiness

  • 5%:
Service to the PLPM Department.- Designs, performs, and analyzes experiments consistent with project objectives. Conducts independent research aligned with the TAMUS member's mission.

Keeps detailed records of procedures and data.- Analyzing plant gene expression datasets generated from RNAseq or related techniques.- Construct sequencing libraries using either in-house protocols or kits.- Conduct GWAS, eQTL, and TWAS analyses.- Experience in confocal microscopy.- Experience in plant molecular biology including DNA cloning, construct generation, and plant transformation.- Mentors students on analyzing and preparing data results.- Validates strategic decision-aid models.- Develops procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy of data collection and analyses.- Identifies, assimilates, and synthesizes data needed for computer models and manages databases relating to statistical and related software.- Maintains expertise with the latest hardware and software technologies for statistical and numerical data analyses.

Keeps up-to-date on scientific research via reading of literature, etc. Attends scientific meetings and seminars for research enhancement.- Prepares data for publication and presentation. Writes grants and proposals to acquire external funding.- Coordinates laboratory activities. Maintains laboratory instrumentation and follows applicable safety standards.- Performs other related duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience:

  • Ph.
D. in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Six years of related experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Knowledge of the statistical software R.
  • Proficiency using Unix/Linux.
  • Proficiency using Adobe Photoshop, ImageJ, or other image processing software.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • May supervise undergraduate and graduate students, and potentially postdocs dependent upon acquiring grant funding.
  • Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment.
  • Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position.
  • Work well with others and in a teamwork environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
