The electronics production in Karlsruhe (MF-K) produces series products with a very high number and complexity of variants in a multi-stage manufacturing process (production of flat assemblies; special processes; device final assembly).

The product portfolio thus operates in the tension between the necessary productivity of series production and the associated desire for interlinking, and the necessary flexibility of high-variant production and the desire for decoupled systems.

As an approach to meeting this duality, the matrix layout is being discussed in the scientific community.
