Description
Logs and maintains tracking system for all new OPRA requests and all summons/subpoenas, wage executions and various legal documents served upon TRANSIT.
- Researches and tracks legal documents to ensure it is answered in accordance with legal timeframe.
- Assists in researching and responding to Open Public Record Act Requests, subpoenas, and various legal inquiries on behalf of Transit.
- Coordinates the compiling of information from various sources and presents the information in an organized, efficient manner.
- Attends documents review meetings.
- Maintains department records and organizes information related to the function of the OPRA officer in appropriate file form and retrieves such information upon request.
- Assists in obtaining legal representation for TRANSIT employees. This includes coordinating assignments with the Office of the Attorney General and outside counsel.
- Prepares and presents information regarding the Open Public Record Act for new employee orientations.
- Prepares correspondence and reports and conducts independent research into legal areas of concern.
- Performs administrative tasks and special projects including research, investigations, archiving files, updating active files and composition of correspondence and reports.
- Assists in the preparation and coordination of the public hearing/public notice processes. Maintains database of statutorily required service list.
- Maintains database of newspaper advertisements verifying receipt of the affidavits and including processing check requisitions to process payment to the newspapers.
Education required:
- A bachelor's degree and one (1) year of experience in administrative management or paralegal experience required.
Experience required:
- Experience in a legal environment or with legal documents.
- Strong administrative background and familiarity with various departments within TRANSIT.
- Experience redacting documents in Adobe Professional.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal skills.
- Must be able to multitask, complete rush assignments, and meet deadlines.
- Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, including calendar manager.
Experience Preferred:
- Knowledge of Salesforce and ability to create reports.
- Knowledge of Oracle software, specifically the accounts payable component.
- Knowledge of MS Access.
- Westlaw or Nexis and other legal research knowledge.
Work hours:
- 8:30 am 5:00 pm
- Lunch Hours 30 minutes
