General Summary:
Performs phlebotomy functions and non-technical duties in areas including the

hospital laboratory, outpatient and off-site services.


Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to and supports the mission, purpose, philosophy, objectives, policies, and
procedures of Tenet Physician Resources.


  • Adheres to the Tenet HIPAA Compliance Plan and the Privacy Standards Confidentiality
Agreement.


  • Demonstrates support for the Tenet Corporate Compliance Program by being
knowledgeable of compliance responsibilities as expressed in the Code of Conduct;
adhering to federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and corporate policies and

procedures policies that affect his/her specific job functions/responsibilities; and reporting

compliance issues/concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.


  • Perform blood draws competently and expediently with as little patient discomfort as
possible


  • Record phlebotomy requisitions
  • Identify the patient by comparing patient information on the requisition to the patient's
identification band before venipuncture is performed


  • Display courteous, professional manner towards patients, co-workers, nursing and
medical staff


  • Label and record all test tubes, log procedures and file paperwork
  • Demonstrate knowledge of color top tube to use, volume of blood needed and test
requirements


  • Follow standard precautions at all times
  • Dispose all sharp instruments in a rigid sharp container
  • Clean and supply venipuncture trays
  • Maintain clean work area
  • Order supplies as needed
  • Complete assigned duties efficiently and in a timely manner
  • Prioritize orders
  • Seek guidance and direction when necessary
  • Assist front office and medical assistants in the office as directed
  • Other job duties as assigned

Education:
High school diploma/GED required with completion of phlebotomy program

Certification:
Phlebotomy (CPT) and CPR certification

Experience:
Must have a minimum of one year of experience working as a phlebotomist in a physician

office

  • Knowledge of phlebotomy procedures and process.
  • Understanding of documentation required for phlebotomy procedures.
  • Knowledge of the purposes, organization, and policies of the local community's health systems
sufficient to interact with other health care providers.


  • Knowledge of the policies and procedures of a clinic sufficient to provide effective patient care.

  • Ability to obtain vital signs and record them correctly.
  • Ability to use medical equipment, supplies and instruments.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written, oral and/or graphic instructions.
  • Ability to multi-task, manage details and organize efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to set priorities among multiple requests.
  • Ability to interact with patients, medical and administrative staff, and the public effectively.
  • Ability to use EMR, other relevant computer hardware and software, telephone, copier, fax
machine and other standard medical office equipment.

Equipment Operated:
Must be able to operate medical office devices as well as standard office

equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, calculators, etc.

Work Environment:
Position is in a well-lit office environment. Occasional evening and weekend work.

Mental/Physical Requirements:
Involves standing, bending, crouching or stooping approximately 50

percent of the day, walking or sitting the remainder, using computers and telephones. Ability to push, pull

or lift objects greater than 50 pounds. Tactile, visual, auditory and olfactory senses intact. Must be able to

write legibly. Manual dexterity and strength to perform medical procedures.


Pay:
$ $21.00 per hour
