Today, a large part of vehicle control units are tested in the laboratory before being used in test vehicles. This is done using hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulators, which simulate the non-existent vehicle environment for the control units.
The HIL simulators consist of control cabinets, which house powerful computers, I/O cards, other components, and sometimes even mechatronic components. The control units to be tested are then connected to these cabinets.
In the Engineering Services department, customer-specific HIL simulators are both newly created and adapted to changed control units on-site at the customer's location.
