JOB DESCRIPTION:


The Residential RSS provides basic nursing care, aids with activities of daily living, and assists in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment, under the direction and supervision of the Director of Clinical Services.

In addition to Behavioral Health Technician duties the Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) will assist clients in enhancing their recovery and help promote clients wellness.

The RSS will provide peer support with other clients to effectively navigate the behavioral health system in the process of their recovery.


JOB REQUIREMENTS:


Education:

High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Minimum two (2) years of education focused on nursing, psychology, social service, medicine, or related field preferred. Completion of accredited Recovery Support Specialist program preferred.


Experience:

Training or experience in substance abuse and/or behavioral health services preferred.


Certification:


Recovery Support Specialist Certification,
Healthcare Provider CPR and First Aid, Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card, TB, and Handle with Care within the first three (3) months of hire and annually thereafter.


Knowledge/Skills:


  • Must be able to interact positively with clients daily whose behavior may be difficult, uncooperative, or aggressive.
  • Must be able to perform concentrated and/or complex mental activity with frequent involvement in complex and/or highly technical situations.
  • Must be able to work successfully under highly stressful conditions.
  • Must be able to make sound, independent judgments based on scientific and/or ethical principles.
  • Must be able to comprehend and perform oral and written instructions and procedures.
  • Must be able to collaborate with other multidisciplinary team members in an appropriate fashion.
  • Must be capable of adapting to varying workloads and work assignments on a constant basis.
  • Must have effective comprehensive reading skills, strong communication skills, written and verbal.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITON:


  • Must be able to demonstrate special training, knowledge, and skills, as well as job and/or program specific competency within the first three (3) months of training, and annually thereafter.
  • Must be certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/ First Aid upon hire and recertified every 2 years thereafter.
  • Must complete all required mandatory inservices annually.
  • Must be tested for Tuberculosis with a PPD skin test or chest xray upon hire; PPD skin test required annually, or chest xray as indicated.
  • Must be certified in HWC within the first three (3) months of hire and annually thereafter.
  • Recovery Support Specialist Certification

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


Physical requirements include, but are not limited to the ability to communicate effectively with clients, their families, staff and others; the ability to effectively utilize communication equipment; the physical agility to manage clients (ambulatory, non-ambulatory and physically aggressive); the ability to read (i.e.

client charts, written communication, regulations, written policies and procedures, etc.); and the ability to write (i.e. manual charting, written communication, etc.).

  • Must occasionally utilize physical ability for lifting/exerting force up to 25 lbs., reaching or stretching, crouching or stooping, tasting and smelling, and seeing for depth perception.
  • Must frequently utilize physical ability for standing, walking, sitting and frequent stairclimbing.
  • Must regularly utilize physical ability for speaking and hearing, and seeing with correction for close, distance and peripheral vision, color discrimination and focusing ability.
  • Mental demands include but are not limited to emotional stability, physical stamina and agility to handle stress and respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations.
  • Must be able to tolerate the physical demands of extended outdoor periods in Arizona weather conditions.
