Position Overview:


The Clinical Health Services (CHS) Immunization Medical Assistant will support clinical services provided to patients by ensuring quality patient care through Mobile Health Service programs.

Under the clinical guidance/oversight of the CHS Advanced Practice Provider, the Immunization Medical Assistant will be responsible for performing clinical tasks in accordance with all Harris County Public Health policies and procedures as delegated by the CHS Advanced Practice Provider/ Registered Nurse / License Vocational Nurse.

This position supports the Harris County Public Health Department (HCPH) and reports to the CHS Site Supervisor.

This position will service the mobile medical health teams which involved health services and immunizations by providing comprehensive medical care.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with patient appointments by performing phlebotomy (including capillary and venous draws), urine collection, pregnancy tests, lead testing, vital signs, & gathering patient histories.
  • Administer ageappropriate immunizations, stays up to date with all CDC vaccine schedule changes, and assists the nursing team with always providing CDCrecommended vaccinations.
  • Maintains laboratory and exam rooms in a neat, clean, and orderly manner in accordance with infection control policies, and complete monthly inventory.
  • Assists in performing data entry and electronic data processing by using the HCPH electronic medical record system (Epic), Microsoft Excel, and any other related programs/sites.
  • Stocks the exam rooms with medical supplies necessary for client screening. Maintains inventory and rotates dated stock to prevent loss, orders appropriately.
  • Performs quality assurance on all needed medical equipment and supplies.
  • Perform clinic front office duties; scheduling, answering phone, and checking patients in/out as needed.

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent Completion of an accredited community college or business/technical school Medical Assistant program

Licensure:

American Heart Association CPR Certification Valid TX Driver's License
Experience:
  • Six (6) months of experience in a healthcare setting
Experience in phlebotomy
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Excellent communication skills (verbal & written). Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment. Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information. Ability to work well with teammates. Communicates clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
