The German Railway is one of the most diverse employers in Germany. Every year, we are looking for over 5,000 apprentices in 50 different professions who want to improve with us.

We are currently seeking candidates for a 3-year apprenticeship as a locomotive shunter (railway employee in the operations department, specializing in train driving and transportation) (m/f/d) for DB Cargo AG at our location in Limburg (Lahn).

The vocational school is located in Lahnstein (near Koblenz).

What to expect in your apprenticeship:

  • You will drive a diesel locomotive to nearby customers, such as various companies, and pick up the goods to be transported.
  • You will shunt freight cars onto the appropriate tracks.
  • You will assemble trains by coupling and uncoupling individual cars.
  • You will learn the rules for safe railway operations and become familiar with your vehicle.
  • Checking the functionality of freight trains and securing the loads are also part of your responsibilities.
  • You will start and end your workday at your regional shunting yard.

Your profile:

  • You have (or will soon have) successfully completed school, are at least 16 years old, and have a passion for technology.
  • You enjoy working outdoors.
  • You remain calm and keep an overview even in challenging situations.
  • You are willing to take on responsibility and make decisions.
  • You are reliable and able to handle stress.
