For more than 118 years, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut.
We are home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties, and are the only area hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services.
We deliver and coordinate a continuum of high-quality healthcare with the goal of improving the health of our communities.JOB SUMMARY
Utilize a canine animal in the performance of his/her Public Safety Officer duties to provide a secure environment of the hospital by protecting patients, visitors and staff through the patrol of buildings, property and grounds.
The Officer will respond to, evaluate and assist with mitigating any security related issues within the facility or other Hartford Healthcare entities.
Qualifications
Education:
HS Diploma or GED required. Completion of college level criminal justice courses preferred.
Experience:
One year of law enforcement, military or public safety
Licensure, Certification, Registration:
Valid driver's license with clean record.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements
- Familiar with locations of all hydrants, fire extinguishers, alarm pull boxes, telephones and all other related equipment, as well as all sensitive area alarm systems.
- Maintains knowledgeable and stays current with the Public Safety Policy and Procedure Manual, Emergency Operations Manual, department directives, memos and rollcall information sheet.
- Practices and maintains excellent customer service skills.
- Successfully attends and completes all mandated Public Safety Training Programs and hospitalbased educational programs.
- Abide by the Canine Policy of Hartford Healthcare and/or its subsidiaries.
- Remains available for emergency callin or other special duty.
- Selfmotivated.
- Effective customer service skills.
- Detail oriented.
- Ability to remain calm and perform all job duties in stressful and threatening situations.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Appropriate housing accommodations (must allow large dogs)
- Effective personal computer input and retrieval skills.
