- Process medical billing claims accurately and in a timely manner using industry-standard software.
- Verify patient insurance coverage, obtain pre-authorizations, and confirm eligibility for services.
- Assign appropriate medical codes to diagnoses, procedures, and services following established coding guidelines (e.g., CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS).
- Generate and submit electronic or paper claims to insurance companies, government payers, and other third-party payers.
- Monitor and follow up on outstanding claims, denials, and appeals to ensure maximum reimbursement.
- Resolve billing discrepancies by collaborating with insurance companies, patients, and healthcare providers.
- Assist in medical assisting duties such as patient intake, recording vital signs, preparing examination rooms, and assisting healthcare providers during procedures.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and other privacy laws.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients regarding billing inquiries, insurance coverage, and payment options.
- Stay informed about changes in medical billing regulations, coding updates, and insurance policies.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required.
- Certification in Medical Billing and Coding (e.g., CPC, CCS) preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and coding, with a focus on healthcare reimbursement.
- Prior experience working as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
- Proficiency in medical billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail in coding and billing processes.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with healthcare providers, staff, and patients.
